I am Robert Lambert, someone with a camera and a lot of images stored digitally, doing nothing much, as I suspect many of us have. I have made this site to display some of the photographs taken by myself over the years (and also to see if I could actually make a website). I have arranged the photographs in groups, i.e. buildings, landscape, nature etc. The image on the right is of the “Twin Sails” lifting bridge in Poole, Dorset, which is where I have lived for the past 40 or so years. This bridge is of a unique design (looking like sails of a boat), but unfortunately most of the time the bridge is in the lowered position for vehicles to cross the water, so it can not often be seen in all its glory !

I had my first camera when I was a boy, it was a plate camera inherited from my father (glass plates rather than film was used to reproduce an image.  It had no viewfinder just a square metal frame. The plates were developed in a dark room with various chemicals rather than instantly using electronics as today, (although chemical processing is still possible today)). The camera had a flashgun made of a wooden tray with a handle in the middle, and a candle fitted at one end. Powder was placed at the end opposite to the candle, the candle was lit and when ready the powder was tipped onto the candle, timing must have been all important. This resulted in a bright flash ! The camera created remarkably good images, although none of the plates have survived.

Things have come a long way since then !
